2019 TTA Annual Meeting Recap

TTA's 2019 Annual Meeting was hosted by TTA's Plateau Chapter over the weekend of October 18-20, 2019, at the Fairfield Glade Conference Center near Crossville, TN. There was an outstanding schedule of hikes and the weather was mostly cooperative.

In the business part of the Annual Meeting, the Membership elected new directors to serve three years on the TTA Board. The Membership also approved changes to the TTA bylaws which removed some ambiguity in describing the process for naming chapter representatives to the Board.

For entertainment, actress Anne Van Curren, from Maryville, treated us to a re‑enactment of the adventures of Grandma Gatewood as she became the first woman to solo through‑hike the AT; Don Hazel taught us all the secrets for attracting bluebirds; and Stuart Carroll, the Park Manager resonsible for Virgin Falls and Lost Creek, gave us an overview of the natural history of the Cumberland Plateau.

The TTA Award for 2019 went to Carlton Parmley, Maintenance Chief at South Cumberland SP. The Bill Stutz Award for 2019 went to Marietta Poteet of the Highland Rim Chapter.

All but two of our chapters were represented at the annual meeting. Throughout the weekend, there were ample opportunities to make new friends and renew old friendships with folks from other chapters.
